About
Kola is not your typical gospel artist. Raised in the New Mount Moriah MBC (LA, CA) under the tutelage of her grandfather, Dr. and Pastor, Willie Island Jr., Kola learned early that sometimes God instructs you to think outside of the box. Growing up in the church, Kola was once the president of the Pastors Choir where she found a love for singing praises unto God. She began singing in the soprano section and then moved to the alto section. As time went on and puberty and life took over, Kola's life took a turn. Things were changing within and changes were also occurring in her school and home life.

Church wasn't as important to Kola as it had once been. There was no more time for rehearsals, shut-ins, BTU, bible study, etc. It was time to experience the bumps and bruises that come with life. In 2000, a testimony was birthed! At 19, Kola became a mother. She dealt with  the snares and snarls of some fellow Christians, as she was not married when giving birth. Little did she know, ALL of this was a part of God's perfect plan. Although she found the ruff street life of L.A. extremely exciting, she never left the church. Sometimes, getting in from the club at 5am, Kola still ensured she made it to church. During this time, Kola balanced being a single mother, working and trying to find herself as a young adult. Under stressful conditions, her love for poetry and rap music blossomed.

One day God gave the current Pastor of New Mount Moriah MBC, B. Alexander Island, a vision of young people writing original gospel pieces and singing all over Los Angeles. This was when the group AVOP (Anointed Vessels of Praise) was formed. Kola was up for the challenge. Leading the way, she gave everyone the task of writing original songs that would be sung in front of a large audience during a church service called Set Free Day. Unknown to the group, they would then receive requests to travel and perform these songs in churches and venues all over Los Angeles. With most of the members being in their 20s and experiencing life on their own, sadly, the group disbanded.

Later on in the early 2000s, Kola, now over the entire youth department, charged the choir members to write to their favorite contemporary tracks, flipping them into songs about GOD. This was an extremely powerful time in the church! The youth choir was on fire and were singing praises unto God every Sunday.

God then began to utilize Kola, telling her to begin writing gospel rap songs to reach those who couldn't find love for or relate to the traditional gospel music of the church that she so loves. Kola then began writing on everything she ran across...lined paper, receipts, napkins, etc. Whatever God placed on her mind, she didn't want to miss it. Now a divorced mother of three,
Kola found time to be very scarce. She knew God's will needed to be done and that her calling was important but it took a back seat.
In 2015, Kola became a founding member of a Los Angeles based, breakout, internet gospel radio podcast called The Lions Den. Kola co-hosted the show with host, Daniel the Lion, where they were heard every Sunday across the United States evangelizing and playing all genres of gospel music. They would receive numerous calls from listeners in other states such as Ohio, Louisiana, Texas, Chicago and Arizona, just to name a few. In 2017, Kola needed to move on from The Lion's Den to focus on her career, schooling and family.

Well, it's present day and Kola has heard the call of the Lord once again. This time the call was urgent and it couldn't go unanswered! GOD SAID, "PLAYTIME IS OVER"!
