About
Janell Smith b.k.a Nello Luchi, is considered by many to be one of the most
impressionable young artists of our time. With a street buzz that is currently
growing, she does it all with gracefulness and ease. With her punch lines,
amazing lyrical techniques, and gift for entertaining, Nello is
unquestionably a threat to the music world. She is a talented songwriter as
well as an energetic performer. Her creative wit matches her stylish
demeanor. Nello’s artistry has gained her international recognition as she
was invited to perform in Brazil with Pop/Rock band ManPurse during the
Spring of 2012. She recently scored a feature with Grammy Award winning
soul singer Chrisette Michele on her 2013 track “Love In The Afternoon”.
Chrisette has also dubbed Nello as “One of the new voices in hip-hop”.
In 2015, Cali Agents' Rasco released his "20,000 Leagues Under The
Streets II" compilation, which also featured Nello's title track from her "The
Struggle before the Glory” project which also was released the same year.
In 2016, Nello performed in Europe for the first time in Cologne, Germany
to a sell out crowd at Club Subway.
Nello was born in the borough of Brooklyn, New York City. She
started rapping at the age of 11 and while some artist rap to become part of
the in crowd or to be down, Nello started rapping because of her love for
poetry. With her love also for hip-hop music, she began combining the two
into something of her own. Nello's inspiration comes from artists such as Jay
Z, The Notorious B.I.G., Slick Rick, MC Lyte, Run DMC, Wu-Tang Clan, as well
as many artists of today. Nello brings a youthful, soulful, and urban
sound/style to the game. Like other artists, she uses music as a way of
self-expression. Her lyrics express her love for music, her spirituality, and
her views on the world today. Nello is truly a fresh breath when it comes to
female emcees. Her musical style and fashion sense is untouched in an
industry where a female artist’s success is dictated by sexuality. Watch Nello
single-handedly raise the bar for all hip-hop artists regardless of gender.
