Afọwọ́slide, also known as Abbey Trombone (real name Afolaranmi Abiodun Olaoluwa), is a Nigerian-born Afrocentric music ambassador who combines rich traditional African rhythms with modern genres like jazz, funk, soul, and highlife. His sound is an immersive blend of indigenous grooves, vibrant horn lines, and philosophical lyrics deeply rooted in Yoruba culture and African spirituality.
With over two decades of professional music experience, he stands at the forefront of Nigeria’s cultural renaissance—bridging tradition and modernity through Afrocentric Music. Afọwọ́slide leads the Abínibí Groovy Band, a vibrant 13-piece ensemble known for dynamic stagecraft and rhythmic innovation. The band blends ancestral sounds with contemporary jazz, funk, and Afrobeat, creating sonic experiences that are educational, soulful, and danceable.
They are the official band for the Afrocentric Rhythms Concert and often feature in large-scale productions, including music scores for film and live theatre.
