About

Therepy Beats is just an idea spurred from my close friends and my own struggles with substance abuse and other mental health issues. Similar content is in a lot of the music created by my favorite artists. Therepy Beats is an idea influenced by others and provide and outlet for my own suicidal thoughts/depression. These two issues are odd, but music and conversations with my friends helped me realized something. Therepy Beats began to come full circle in August 2019 when I started to try and make beats for distribution. These sounds where there for me when I was alone while completing my graduate degree. On this note I'm not a professional counselor or producer. In fact it was a spelling error and watching a friend struggle that I realized I could distribute my ‘music’ as Therepy Beats: because music can always be there for you and making music can provide a type of therapy. The word Therepy was a typo I made on the titles of some potential albums. I am very bad at spelling, but I meant a song to be titled ‘Therapy Session one’ (T.S.1) (NF has some similar titles for his work and a lot of my favorite arts refer to music as their therapy too) but I mistakenly made it Therepy. After realizing the mistake I was like ‘oh I actually can use that’ because therapy is opening your problems to someone who is (willing to be) there and willing to listen. Just like if you choose to listen to my Therepy Beats. Using GarageBand, every Therepy Beat is created by me (AnonymousALT). I’m inspired by better musicians, my close friends, and family. I create these sounds as a way for me to explain what I see. For now I only have these sounds but eventually will add rhymes to the beats. Therepy beats can be due to my self-created problems. Sometimes it is to manage some mental health issues. Therepy Beats are created because sometimes people want to listen, sometimes they can’t listen, and sometimes it seems no one wants to listen. Personally, I use these ‘therepy beats’ to write about my mental health and thoughts on political (economic) issues. Particular mental health issues are suicidal thoughts, substance abuse (especially alcohols prevalence in society and among my close friends, as well as one illicit drug and other legal drugs that affect me), depression, and (social) anxiety. The political issues are complex and vary but I will try to be objective and informative. This is to my close friends (and others) that have helped me. Therepy Beats is an idea and my attempt to pass this forward and help someone else. On this note, I don't want to have to be in the public eye or monetize people's pain. However, at this time I require money. I’m not banking on this to make me rich. I want to help people the best I can. If one wants to listen to Therepy Beats (thank you!) this is an option with many streaming services (just look up AnonymousALT). However, for those that are interested in recording please note that at some point I plan on selling the rights/leasing my beats. The plan on selling the rights will be somewhat different to the current practice. The rights to the Beats I sell will be well below market average for competitive quality (I would probably keep 10% of the royalties but the song is yours). When I start to lease the prices will be slightly lower than market average beats. However, the monetization process requires both legal expertise and money I do not have. In conclusion, the idea behind Therepy Beats is giving individuals that want to write or make music some starting blocks. The ‘therapy’ could be either changing the beat and or writing to it. In other words, Therepy Beats are there to provide a healthy escape or outlet. The beats are there for you to set time aside. Hopefully therepy beats might dampen the stigma of discussing uncomfortable topics like substance abuse, suicidal thoughts, or reaching out to therapist. Maybe this music can allow people to see themselves differently, as it has done for me. In short, Therepy Beats comes from the idea music is always there for you. I am trying to offer something like art therapy, but here the art is the music, writing, and photos used for cover art. Between Summer of 2016 and August 2019 I have been using GarageBand to make beats, writing rhymes, and using my own photos as album art for a form of therapy.
