About

Derrick Devon Phelps Jr., known professionally as BLB Fujin (BAG LEAF BOY), also called "Big Fu," is an American artist hailing from Jacksonville, Florida. He was born on October 22, 1995, and grew up in a household that was deeply influenced by both Black and Japanese culture. He was given the nickname "Fujin," after the Japanese god of wind, which he has carried with him throughout his life. BLB Fujin's early life was marked by tragedy and hardship. He was a problem child, involved in a gang during high school and eventually expelled from Nathan Bradford Forest. However, instead of facing jail time, he was forced to take another path and joined the army. Combining street smarts with military experience, he became a force to be reckoned with in the Duval music scene. Despite the challenges of growing up with a double culture background, BLB Fujin's passion for music helped him to find his voice and connect with others. He was deeply influenced by his family's love of music, and his mother Tereka Wilson played a significant role in encouraging his musical development. At the age of 27, BLB Fujin is now a successful artist who challenges his sound against other mainstream artists. He is the founder of Bag Leaf Nation LLC and Bag Leaf Boys INC., which manages five artists across the state of Florida. BLB Fujin's rise to notoriety in the music industry began with his collaborations with notable artists such as Rylo Rodriguez, who featured on his notorious song "Christian Lou" released on April 4, 2021. He also caught the attention of American Miami bass and hip hop duo Van "Thrill Da Playa" Bryant and Barry "Fast" Wright, who co-signed him on January 15, 2022. The duo is famously known for their debut album "199Quad" and their platinum hit song "Tootsee Roll," which reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 9 on the R&B chart. BLB Fujin's success is not limited to his collaborations. He has also been seen with prominent artists such as Rick Ross in March 2021, Fredo Bang on March 7, 2021, and City Girls' DJ Fatboy Rhymer. However, despite his success, BLB Fujin has also faced personal tragedy. His mother, Tereka, passed away on December 19, 2008, on the north side of Jacksonville, Florida. Her passing had a profound impact on BLB Fujin's life and his music. He has since used his platform to advocate for mental health awareness and provide support for those who have experienced similar loss. As Fujin once said, "I could never pinch myself and then pinch you and try to make you feel how I feel; we will never interpret it the same way. In order to listen to my music and understand my style, you have to understand what the mud feels like." This quote reflects his belief that his music is deeply personal and can only be truly understood by those who have experienced the struggles and triumphs he has faced. Fujin's dedication to his craft and his ability to use his past experiences to create meaningful music make him a rising star in the hip-hop world.
