Christian Stewart

Christian Stewart is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, performer, and producer currently based in Boston, Massachusetts. He is in his second year studying music production at Berklee College of Music and has produced and released 11 of his own original songs to date. In these tunes he incorporates instruments such as banjo, mandolin, accordion, and trumpet, all played by himself. He originally hails from the Land of Lincoln, Illinois, and the simple beauty of the midwestern lakes and pines can be heard in his songs when he performs them in venues throughout New England. Playing both solo and with other musicians, Christian draws on a foundation of Celtic music, Americana, and rock to create a sound that you haven’t heard before. One moment he will be singing a soulful Irish ballad, and the next he will be breaking guitar strings and blowing speakers with a tune that sits somewhere between the jovial groove of Hothouse Flowers and the eclectic mania of The 1975. Christian first started studying classical piano at the age of 4 and discovered a strong affinity for music. Between annual performance and theory tests, he would also compete in local piano competitions multiple times a year. At the age of 8 he added trumpet as a secondary instrument and played in concert band and jazz band throughout high school. While he loved performing, Christian felt there was something missing for him in music, and the hours spent alone preparing concert piano pieces seemed to be more draining than lifegiving to him. It was at this point when he began to play in a folk band with a few friends, picking up guitar and mandolin as auxiliary instruments. Discovering a newfound love for playing music in community with others, Christian dove headfirst into the rich cultural heritage of traditional Celtic and roots music, and in doing so he also discovered his new favorite instrument that would become his primary focus – his voice. With a decade of experience writing songs and performing them for others, Christian seeks to cultivate a space for people to explore and celebrate all that is good, true, and beautiful. In his own words, “It’s time to take back what social media has taken from us – our ability to create real culture and interact with one another face to face. Telling stories around a campfire has been replaced by lying in bed alone to watch 9 second videos that give you an emotional high.” In a world inundated with short form content and instant gratification, Christian appeals to the roots of musical society to bring back what has been lost.
