About

CuJo Jr. is an independent hip-hop artist from East St. Louis, Illinois, whose music is rooted in lived experience, self-reflection, and perseverance. Born and raised in East St. Louis (Washington Park), Illinois, CuJo Jr. developed an interest in music at a young age, beginning to write and rap around the age of nine. Early on, he drew inspiration from youthful rap stars like Lil’ Bow Wow and Lil’ Romeo, which sparked his curiosity not only in music, but in the creative discipline behind it. Growing up in a poverty-stricken environment, CuJo Jr. balanced his passion for music with sports, competing in football, basketball, track, and wrestling throughout his school years. It was his football coach who gave him the nickname “CuJo,” a name derived from his initials rather than the horror film often associated with it. He discovered his natural ability for rapping in high school after performing a rap adaptation of Julius Caesar for a class project, earning recognition from teachers, students, and administrators. That moment became a turning point, pushing him to take his writing more seriously and refine his skills through freestyling and recording. Influenced by artists such as Eminem, Lil Wayne, Boosie, Kevin Gates, Starlito, and Don Trip, CuJo Jr.’s sound blends street realism with introspection, often addressing themes of struggle, loyalty, mental health, and personal growth. After relocating within Illinois to focus on his craft, he began recording consistently, releasing his first single On My Grind in 2018, followed by his debut mixtape Feed Me Beatz in 2019. The following year, he won a live performance contest, earning the opportunity to perform for a larger audience and connect with an Atlantic Records A&R. Following personal setbacks and periods of depression, CuJo Jr. turned inward, using music as a form of therapy and self-examination. In 2023, he released his debut album At War Wit Myself, followed by Feed Me Beatz 2, marking a more focused and honest phase in his artistry. Continuing to build independently, CuJo Jr. remains committed to authenticity and ownership, with future projects including At War Wit Myself 2 and Feed Me Beatz 3 planned for 2026.
