About
“Two blokes trying to make sense of the universe.”
DOCUS is a Pop Electro Folk band formed in 2022, making its independently released EP debut in the summer of 2024. DOCUS is made up of two multi-instrumentalists and producers, Matthew Kerr and Matheus Lucena. Currently living in Spain, DOCUS crafts a unique sound, merging English and Brazilian folk songwriting styles with electro beats and synths.
DOCUS merges the worlds of Matheus Lucena from Brazil, and native Brit Matthew Kerr. Currently immersed in the brilliant chaos of music making and carving out a complete project, the pair infuses their palpable connection into every facet of their artistic journey, embracing the messy yet creative live/studio process.
In 2014, following Kerr's post-grad decision to settle in Brazil after a cross-cultural music program the previous year, the duo joined a larger band called “The Skinnies.” Riding waves around the local music scene with their feel-good songs “Bicicleta” and “A Pena e o Elefante.” Next… After years of couch-surfing, songwriting, and experimenting with their sound, Lucena and Kerr boldly moved to Spain and established DOCUS—a playful tribute to their love for the prehistoric gentle giant, the Diplodocus. Kerr journeyed to their Spanish base initially, setting things up and anticipating Lucena's arrival in 2022. Taking a leap of faith, Lucena left his studies, choosing to reunite with his musical mate and dive into the creation of their debut album Infinite.
Inspired by musical greats such as Gregory Alan Isakov and Bruce Hornsby, the band´s expansive style weaves together an emotive blend of heavy bass, synth-infused sounds, and laid-back guitar riffs. DOCUS maintains an unwavering commitment to staying grounded and not taking themselves too seriously; the pair playfully refers to themselves as “two blokes just stuck in the universe trying to bring people something meaningful.” DOCUS is currently working on finishing the Infinite project while keeping their head in the clouds and their feet firmly on this planet.
