Born Daniel Andre Williamson in Brooklyn, New York to Jamaican parents, R&B fusion artiste Don Prezi has been fervently working to emerged onto the scene with hopes of making it big in the worldwide music industry. In his own words “Music was just something that came natural to me, I honestly just gravitated to it so it became something I wanted to do.”
An all-rounded artiste, Don Prezi is into anything that catches his musical vibe. His musical style is mainly R&B fused with a bit of hip-hop and dancehall which is a reflection of his roots. His music is influenced by many different genres, including but not limited to, Hip-Hop, R&B, Dancehall, Gospel Ect. As an artiste, who fuses different cultures and different styles of music together, Don Prezi is very open to trying out different musical palates and styles, as he relates that there is nothing that he is unwilling to try musically. He touts that quality as why he sees himself as an artiste that stands out. “A lot of artiste nowadays are very talented lyrically, I think I'll stand out because I’m fluid enough between different genres of music,” he explained.
Don Prezi biggest musical influences are Michael Jackson, Biggie Smalls, Tupac, Bounty Killa, Beenie Man and Spragga Benz. Being blessed with Jamaican parents, Don Prezi was privileged enough to grow up both in New York and Jamaica. In his formative years he attended Mount Vernon High School which had a very good music program and nurtured his talent. As a pre-teen he moved to Jamaica and attended the John Mill’s Junior High, then went to Kingston Technical where he met up with a other musically inclined teenagers and further explored his talent.
Growing up a household where his mother, grandmother and older sister were always listening to a wide cross section of musical genres, from R&B to Reggae to Country Western he was always performing and singing with family around. In 1992 he entered a talent show and performed Beenie Man’s early 90s hit ‘World Dance’ to rave reviews. He remembers as a teenager he approached dancehall artiste Spagga Benz who encouraged him to step fully into the musical sphere and give it all he has got.
Previously, Don Prezi has release 2 mixtapes Got Flav Volume 1 and Got Flav Volume 2, which featured a myriad of other young artistes from New York and Jamaica. More recently he release a single called ‘Better’ which speaks mainly on relationships. The single has been getting good reviews and is a precursor to his album project which he hopes to release later this year.
Aside from being an artiste Don Prezi registered his own label called Flav-tainment Records to which he produces music not just for himself but other artistes as well. Within the next five years, Don Prezi not only hopes to still be achieving his goal of producing good music for people to enjoy. With his 2 fold role of being a music producer and an artiste, he also hopes to assist more in the careers of younger artistes and help them reach their musical goals. He believes in the theory of paying it forward or sharing the knowledge as each one can teach one and help another person on their journey.
