About

Christopher Carter, known professionally as GHETTO CHRIS, is an American rapper, songwriter, actor, and entrepreneur. Ghetto Chris wasn’t fortunate enough to live the American Dream. Growing up in a single-parent household made it difficult for Ghetto Chris to overcome several childhood obstacles. After losing a close childhood friend and label mate, Ghetto Chris decided to pursue a solo music career. Just like any other inspiring artist, Ghetto Chris began to make appearances on local mixtapes and performing at local open mics showcases. While performing and building his local buzz, Ghetto Chris noticed that his hometown of Smithfield wasn’t getting much shine. “We use to call it 7, but now we call it 8”, was the lyrics used by Ghetto Chris on the song, “Isle of Wight District”, released on a local mixtape, Virginia Go Hard. As Ghetto Chris network began to expand, he began to collaborate with local artists from the surrounding country areas such as Franklin, Windsor, Surry County, etc. With all the local collabs and open mic showcase wins, even receiving the VA Artist of the Year Award, Ghetto Chris was becoming a one-man brand. With Ghetto Chris now screaming “8th City” in songs and wearing it on tee-shirts, Ghetto Chris had then developed his own brand, 8TH CITY. From socks, lighters, and now his own signature 8TH CITY shoes, Ghetto Chris is renovating the indie label scene. Ghetto Chris released a documentary, "8TH CITY WE COMING", that details his journey throughout the 8TH CITY. Also featuring in the “Home The 8th City” series and “NO PLAN B” the movie Ghetto Chris debuted his acting skills playing the role of a local neighborhood trap star. With Virginia radio legend DJ Jack of Spade consistently shouting out Ghetto Chris and the 8th City, nonbelievers were starting to believe in the movement. Even the local high school banned the students from wearing 8th City apparel on the premises, after Ghetto Chris had spoken to several high school students about staying positive. Ghetto Chris will continue to host his annual 8th City Day community service event that takes place each summer. Now that Ghetto Chris has built his local status, he is consistently touring and, on the road, promoting the brand, “8th City”. Ghetto Chris features on Gray Rizzy “We Outcha” series freestyle for 50 years Hip Hop, HipHopNation, Shade 45, Memphis with Boxedin, Off The Porch Interview, link up with Legendary Chuck T out NC, Smitty Talk Is Cheap NY, was on the Legendz of the Streetz Tour with Ti, Jeezy, Jadakiss, Rick Ross, Camron, Trina, at Hampton Coliseum, even performed at the Barclays with New York Greats such as Remy MA, Fat Joe, Fivio Foeign, etc Ghetto Chris and 8th City has a lot more coming.
