About

High Steppers Brass Band “More Than One Way to Groove” In the recent years, there has been a growth in the number of brass bands playing traditional Jazz music. There have also been several brass bands that have enlarged their musical scope to include many non-traditional tunes. Many have added prominent musicians and singers to their recordings with great success. The High Steppers Brass Band has stayed close to the Traditional Jazz, but has added a touch of the popular culture to their music. Getting its roots from the world famous Olympia Brass Band; the High Steppers, established on July 4, 1993 (formally Olympia Kids) has taken big steps forward with keeping a foundation of the past. The original brass bands played parades, but they also played dances and parties. With a repertoire fitting for any occasion, the High Steppers perform material that makes it possible to play a parade with gusto and entertain a party with music that makes you want to dance. The group also has a soulful ability to smooth it out for the Grown and Sexy. Heating up the stage for such great artist as Herbie Hancock, Little Richard, and the late great Godfather of Soul James Brown, no one can accuse The High Steppers of a lack of swing. The band brings life to any tune they play. A like that shows the enthusiasm of youth with a tip of the hat to the tradition. From the funeral dirge tempo of “Just a Closer Walk with Thee”, through the wildly exciting Stevie Wonder’s “Do I Do” and the Laid back sounds of Maze “Too Many Games” & “We are One”, The High Steppers Brass Band entertains with some of the greatest hits from then and now.
