Marnell Kenan

Marnell Kenan is an vocal artist, songwriter and lyricist arranger from Detroit, Michigan. Her interest in music began as a young child – she started to sing before she could talk. In church her father would pull her to the front to sing despite her not wanting to but that led to her gaining courage to sing ‘What a Feeling’ at her elementary school talent show. She got the bug from there. Kenan’s range is from alto to first soprano and is known for doing all of her own backgrounds and arrangements. Marnell went to college and got a degree in Teaching and Musical Education from the University of Michigan and a Masters from Full Sail University in Music & Marketing. While in college, Marnell sang with the likes of Ed McMahon on Star Search and went on to win talent shows and music competitions given by the Masons and different college fraternities. She began to tour with different international artists as a background singer. These included: Aaliyah, SWV, Mary J. Blige, Sean Diddy Combs, and Biggie Smalls. She has toured worldwide from Japan to Singapore, to Dubai, Paris, most Caribbean Islands and the United States; performing from the Hollywood Bowl all the way to Radio City Music Hall. She has appeared on late night television such as Late Night with Jon Stewart, Motown Live with Robert Townsend & Montell Jordan, and the Lady of Soul Train Music Awards. She was a featured guest vocal artist on New York Undercover, wrote & performed various jingles for McDonalds and Lincoln Car company and was signed as a Motown Universal Artist under the late Andre Harrell. In this stage in her life, Marnell has decided to pursue a career as an Indie Gospel artist and is excited to present her first gospel single ‘Take Me Up’ coming in August 2020. Kenan is a member of PRO Organizations - ASCAP, SAG-AFTRA and the American Federation of Musicians.
