About

Lyrical Theme "Jiwormi" is an affectionate nickname born from a cute typo the artist (RAINBOWGLASS) made when calling the name of an employee, "Lee Ji Won," whom he cherished while working on a bakery branding project. One late Sunday evening, while texting in a dark place, the artist accidentally typed 'ㅁ' (m) instead of 'ㄴ' (n) for the last letter of her name, changing "Jiwon" to "Jiworm." This sounded similar to the English word "worm" (벌레), and specifically brought to mind the Korean word for "mealworm" (밀웜). The artist (RAINBOWGLASS) went to work the next Monday, and starting in the morning, the sulking Jiwon asked, "Why am I a mealworm?" She appealed to those around her, saying "Ssangmu-nim called me a mealworm, " and cutely argued her case, which led to all the employees finding out and Jiwon's nickname becoming "Jiworm." Since then, this simple mistake became a pleasant and cute nickname for Jiwon (Jiworm=Mealworm), and this song was inspired by that episode. With a comedic and pleasant atmosphere, the song expresses the free-spirited, bright, and beautifully unique emotional characteristics of the people of South Korea, a free democracy. On one hand, it shows a humane side that is warm and affectionate, where a superior abandons their authority and does not spare apologies, and it also shows the polite, everyday feelings of Koreans. Although it was produced as a Korean song, we produced an English version as well, wanting to share this pleasant, comedic, and humane sentiment of Koreans with overseas audiences. Unni (언니) = is the Korean word for sister, and Ssangmu-nim (쌍무님) = means the chief executive officer (in the case of a small/medium business). (In large corporations, it is a position below Vice President.) In Korean, it is an official title that exists in the hierarchical ranking system, with the original name being "Sangmu" (상무). "Ssangmu-nim" is a term used as a form of affectionate nickname by close employees, spoken with a strong intonation. Also, in the early part of the lyrics, "Who is this? Jiwon, what's up?", the phrase "what's up?" is similar to the word "Wasseup?" (와썹?) used in Korea. This is not official Korean but a modified Korean trendy among young people, imitating the similar English pronunciation. In Korea, "Wasseup?" does not mean "What's up?" in English, but rather "Are you here?" or "You came?" (similar to "come?" or "Did you come?" in English). The actual Korean phrase "Wasseo?" (왔어?, meaning "you came") has a very similar pronunciation and feel to the English "What's up?". The album cover features a cute mealworm character that sufficiently evokes a mealworm, wearing a baker's hat, which is the trademark symbolizing the bakery brand. To show that the subject wearing it is a cute and pretty female employee, long eyelashes are depicted, and the surroundings are comically mixed with products and equipment symbolizing the bakery. Music Style Overall, to convey the feel of the comedic and pleasant story, the rhythm, rhyme, and interjections ("Yo!", "Skrrt!", "Sheesh!", etc.) completely follow the grammar of hip-hop. The call-and-response structure (Jiwon ↔ Ssangmu-nim=Boss) also strongly creates the feeling of a rap battle or a "tiki-taka" rap. However, if the entire conversational structure was confirmed as a male/female "tiki-taka" style, it could become a complete hip-hop song, so to maintain the atmosphere of a hybrid pop genre, the female vocal was generally grouped solo, and the repeating chorus (“Boss calls me jiworm…”) was made very catchy to adhere to the pop melody line. Because of this, the song itself has a hip-hop-like atmosphere and is humor-centric rather than serious, thus having a "Comedy Hip-Hop" style, while also being a song intended as a "Pop-Meme Song." Tone The tone generally maintains a hip-hop style with a consistent rhythm and beat, mixed with a deep-synth drum tone that creates a cheerful atmosphere in the middle. It is a hybrid mix pop meme song that includes a climax in the part where the teased subject (Jiworm) tells her own story. (Fun, playful, energetic, slightly absurd)
