He says he's a rapper but at first glance you don't see the garden variety MC. In fact this bespectacled gentleman resembles nothing close to it. No jewerly, or any of the other accessories attributed to modern day rappers. His dark rimmed glasses and stoic look will leaving you scratching your head like, did I miss something. Suddenly you catch a glimpse of one of his 10 tattoos, then rapper becomes a possibility. He then mentions something about writing a poetry book and you are back to square one...studying the contradictions.
A self-professed revolutionary, Dre’ Guevara is a play on Che’ Guevara a major figure in the Cuban Revolutionary. When Dre Guevara speaks, he commandeers the attention of all those who are fortunate to cross his path. Not one to confine himself into a box, Dre Guevara flexes his pen and deliveries poignant poetry to go along with his rapper status. In a room full of people, with his soft- spoken demeanor he could easily go unnoticed. Often dressed in a button up, some khakis, and bow tie he looks more the part of a college professor than a rapper or spoken word artist. . BUT THEN HE SPEAKS, and the fiery rhetoric that bellows out his mouth conjures the stark words of the revolutionaries that walked before him. There you go again asking is he a rapper?
An advocate for change, his historical training background with his ability to weave everyday language into a simple yet direct message for all is his super power. When rappers and hip-hop artist are flaunting their riches, Dre Guevara is speaking on many of the social issues that plague the Black Community. Hailing from Ferguson Missouri, called ground zero for the modern civil rights he has first hand knowledge of what it means to fight for freedom. Music is the language that transcends all social barriers.
Dre has performed with The Saint Louis Story Stitchers a non for profit in Saint Louis, he has been a repeat performer for The Saint Louis Story Teller Festival, The Bronzeville Nights Series, and Soul Therapy Atlanta just to name a few. March 2020 Dre Guevara published “Spilled Blood Never Dries” a collection of poetry. That same year he released his mixtape “Reflections,” a high-powered collection of songs that cast a light on the ills of the black community.
His new release, "The Conversation" a 5 song EP is what it says it, a conversation starter. With more music coming soon, this is just a sample of more fire to coming!
