Rise Rashid is a rapper, author, actor, and high school basketball coach based in Raleigh, North Carolina. Known for his raw lyricism and powerful storytelling, he blends music with mentorship to inspire both in the studio and in the classroom. Artist & Identity Born Jamal Williams and professionally known as Rise Rashid, he wears many hats: rapper, actor, author, mentor and high school basketball coach.  Roots & Location Though originally hailing from Virginia, Rise Rashid now resides in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he serves on the coaching staff of the varsity basketball program at Millbrook High School.  Musical Journey Music has always been central to his life. He discovered his love for songwriting through digging into his grandmother’s records and was especially influenced by the albums of Michael Jackson (“Off the Wall”) and Nas (“Illmatic”).  He has released multiple projects, including the EP Five Mics (2019), Coach Rise (2021), King of My Own (2024), and My GOAT (2025) showcasing his growth as both a lyricist and storyteller.  Coaching & Mentorship As a coach at Millbrook High School, Rise Rashid not only helps athletes develop on the court, but also emphasizes character, resilience and life skills off it. He works with students in varied roles—including as a teacher’s aide in special‑needs education—demonstrating his commitment to mentorship and community.  He reflects: “Even though it’s a sport and a game, it’s not about wins and losses … it’s the principles that make up the game and the experiences that you go through.”  Artistry & Message His music often draws from his personal journeys and the perspectives of the youth he works with: “I don’t sugar‑coat the things that I say when I’m talking about what I’ve seen and experienced myself and what I’ve seen in others.”  This authenticity gives his work both depth and relatability across generations.
