About
Riskology Jay Radcliffe - a soul dedicated to music & development. After many years of Pirate and Community Radio, in Southampton UK - Riskology known by his friends and family as Jay (short for Jamie), is now releasing some of the catalogue of music he has written over the years, in his own words - 'I have always been a writer and my soul lives on stage, over the years I have written, recorded and performed so much material. Actually, I have songs I perform that I still have never got round to recording, it’s mad. I was mainly focused on my love and intrigue in radio broadcasting. I moved toward radio as there was a local need to promote home-grown talent and it gave a boost to those that were not been heard. Southampton is a hot bed of Musical and Artistic talent and I love to celebrate that. It was a combination of other local artists and my daughter that suggested I release some of my music in the public domain. I have never had an interest in capital gain or the mis-guided music industry. Music or MC'ing and creating music is a release, a form of therapy and anger management for me and has most definitely improved my quality of life, I don't want to tell you to much, as I believe the project does exactly that. It explains my journey, chapter by chapter, growing up in a post apartheid South Africa, going to Jail, moving to the UK, with no input or choice, drug addiction, mental health and family breakdown the list is relentless, yet here I am smiling, like I just won the lottery - life truly is what you make it.’
Working with United Masters meant I have complete control of where and how I release my music. The creative era we are living in, is so exciting, as creative control is directly in the hands of the artist. To me that is a great winning formula, lets see if the people agree'.
Jay is currently in the Mastering process of his 2 part 14 track album Karma Ep, recorded and mastered by Jojo F of Redroom studio Southampton, a producer with ever growing accolades, who himself has worked with Dj Ironik, Cadet (R.I.P), Da beat Freaks, Dappy, Tion Wayne, Deno, Ardee and several other rising Urban Stars. 'I have been very lucky to work with Jo to be honest he is extremely talented and been local defo gives us more meaning and depth. I had hoped to put this project out in 2020 however I always agreed with Jo we would never rush anything. He has been hugely inspirational not just on my music but on the sound of the whole city, plus his skills are mad he is the definition of work rate and I truly cant wait to get some of the work we have made, out to the people. I defo owe Jo a lot for the work he has put in and I will be forever grateful, in honesty the project is a true reflection of, well - my definition of this crazy journey we are on' after briefly checking his phone and a quick glance out the window, he continues as he bounces around the room - 'ah I can't wait for you lot to get this in your eargasms’......... By all accounts deep and intriguing conversation and a need to be heard from opinion to promotion this man never misses an opportunity and seems to be in constant work mode, ' I have various interests on the mental health spectrum' he laughs 'my ADHD keeps me occupied coz even when I am not busy I am busy, it can be fun' he laughs.
Karma Ep is due for release August 2021, 4 songs have been released off the project as singles, first single Something You Said, features Solent Flour Mill as the setting. While the 2nd single - Sugar Man (featured by BBC introducing) is currently Riskology's most streamed/downloaded song. The Single was also featured on the Official Sixto Rodriques blog, 'yeah I am gassed about that I have sent the BBC music for about 7 or 8 years and finally got featured, you know 10k hour rule and all that and then to be featured on a website that represents a true Legend it is awesome, progression and a little mad', he laughs 'we are here, right here, ready with so much material, Yeah Local2Global remember that name and oh yeah shout out the whole team working hard to make a difference.’' he expresses punching his hand in excitement. 'And to top it off Hear me has got over 50K views the momentum is great.
So why is it called an Ep if it's 2 parts and 14 songs, he shrugs his shoulders, 'why not' he replies. 'In all honesty I can't really lay claim to the word Karma, although I have come full circle in it's understanding, hence the title. I feel the 7 songs per release is more an Ep than an Album, I am old Skool an Album, is 16 to 20 songs, so in my mind it's 2 Ep's. More importantly, I just want people to enjoy the project as much as I have enjoyed putting it together, that is the key to me, the impact and engagement, the way people connect with the songs is where my passion lies.
Numbers are numbers and a reflection of modern success in this diluted industry, I am just trying stay concentrated and not be diluted.' he laughs, 'don't get diluted kids.'
There are early signs that the content makes for intriguing listening. I have not heard the full project however what I heard was current and captivating and most definitely the energy and passion that could start a riot or revolution you decide, Let us know your opinion.
