About SpOOky ThE ManiaC

DAi (formerly known as SpOOky ThE ManiaC) is the professional name of Gabriel Ohene Kwasi Addai, a Ghanaian singer, rapper, songwriter, music executive, producer, and creative strategist from Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana. The name DAi, which means “Dream” in the Fante language, represents the pursuit of purpose, resilience, and the courage to live one’s dreams despite adversity. Born to Mr. George Addai and the late Ms. Veronica Aikins, DAi was raised in a modest household where music, faith, and creativity played a significant role in shaping his identity. His father served as a church choirmaster while his mother was an alto part leader, exposing him to music from an early age. He attended Fijai Senior High School, where his talent for writing, performance, and public speaking began to emerge. Known among his peers as “English Man” for his exceptional command of the English language, he developed a passion for storytelling, poetry, songwriting, and creative expression. DAi began his professional music journey in 2013, blending Highlife, Hip Hop, Hiplife, and R&B with deeply personal storytelling and socially conscious themes. Drawing inspiration from real-life experiences, his music explores love, ambition, loss, mental health, self-discovery, and perseverance. His ability to seamlessly sing, rap, write, produce, and creatively direct his projects has established him as one of Ghana’s most versatile independent artists. Throughout his career, DAi has earned recognition for his songwriting and artistic excellence. His 2018 single “Marry You” received three nominations at the Western Music Awards and he secured third place in the Nescafé One Song competition out of 5,000+ applicants. He was also selected for MTN HitMaker, where he showcased his talent to leading music industry professionals. In 2021, DAi gained international attention after composing the official Twitter Spaces theme song, a cultural moment that resonated with users worldwide and cemented his reputation as an innovative digital creator. The same year, he played a pivotal role in helping coordinate awareness efforts that contributed to the rescue of more than 800 stranded students during the Ukraine crisis, an effort that received international recognition and coverage from major global media outlets, including The New York Times. Beyond music, DAi is a respected music executive and creative industry advocate. He served as Director of Operations at Spyy Entertainment and currently serves as the Deputy Organizer of the Western Regional Creative Arts Industry Stakeholders (WRCAI), where he works to strengthen the Western Region’s creative ecosystem through collaboration, education, and industry development. He has also written and created music for brands like Okyeame Kwame, Delmi Training Institute (Canada), The Bro Code (Now Rebirth Creative Studios), organizations, and artists, including collaborations with renowned Ghanaian musicians such as Efya and Edem. As a producer, mixing engineer, and creative strategist, DAi continues to embrace innovation, leveraging technology, digital media, and direct-to-consumer models to build meaningful connections with audiences around the world. His work has connected him with musicians, producers, and instrumentalists across Ghana, the United States, Canada, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, South Africa, and other international markets. In 2025, Gabriel Ohene Kwasi Addai officially began transitioning from SpOOky ThE ManiaC to DAi, marking a new chapter in his artistic evolution. The rebrand reflects a more mature vision centered on purpose, mastery, creativity, and the philosophy “Live Full, Die Empty.” Through music, storytelling, entrepreneurship, and advocacy, DAi seeks to inspire people to pursue their dreams relentlessly while becoming the best versions of themselves. Today, DAi continues to release music, develop artists, lead creative initiatives, and expand his influence as one of Ghana’s emerging voices in music, culture, and digital innovation.
