About

Hip hop is replete with dynamic artists that have made an indelible impression on the history of the genre. Eric Sermon and Parrish Smith (EPMD), Naughty By Nature, Rakim, Kool Moe Dee, Andre 3000(Outkast), Pimp C and Bun B (UGK) and 8ball & MJG are a few of many names of artists who made history by creating classic music that withstood the true test of time. To this list of terrific artists, we will soon be able to add the name Swango Kango whose current single, “Thank Myself,” promises to place him and his city, Denver, Colorado on the musical map of hip hop in a major way. “People think we are all country, lack culture, everyone skis, no black people and were stuck in the snow all the time,” says Swango Kango.” “Not true! Denver is rapidly growing into a large metropolitan city. People in Denver love rap, it's a big part of our culture, and I would love the opportunity to put us on the map.” Swango Kango is from the Eastside of Denver and was born in Westminster, Colorado. He grew up in different areas of Denver, though his childhood experiences in a single-parent household. He knew the perils of inner-city life. He was exposed to poverty, hustling, violence and gang culture. And knew that he needed to persevere in order to uplift himself from impoverished environments. Although many of his peers may have turned to less legal means as a way of evading their surroundings, Swango choose education, sports, music and the country life as means of escape. For Swango Kango music came naturally. Both of his parents wrote and his brothers wrote. He admits to writing songs when he was a kid. “I've always written songs,” says Swango Kango. “Sometimes, depending on my mood, I would write a rap song. But I mostly wrote country, pop, R&B and alternative songs. It wasn't until about five years ago that I actually started focusing on making rap songs.” Once Swango Kango graduated high school he put rapping on the back burner in order to pursue his higher education where he would eventually graduate from UNC Greely, CO and joined Que Psi Phi Fraternity. But in 2019, what once was on the back burner quickly came to a front burner boil after writing a catchy hook for a song called “Thank Myself”. The brother he originally wrote the song for declined to rap on the track so Swango Kango decided to do it himself. “Thank Myself,” with its slinky bassline and irresistible up-tempo beat provided the perfect club banger for silky melodic flow and Swango Kango’s lyrical swag. It also proved to be the magic formula that caught the interest of Smoke D of the legendary group, UGK. Smoke D not only blessed Swango Kango with an extremely rare guest appearance, he also directed the video for the single. With a blazing hot single under his belt and more hot music on the way you can expect to see him dominate the game real soon.
