About

TOXIK Dementia: Electro Industrial Experimental, Neon Aesthetics, and a Journey of Self-Discovery from Argentina – Released via Blood & Dementia Records TOXIK Dementia is the avant-garde experimental electronic music project led by Abril Rainbow, a talented artist, graphic designer, and illustrator from Argentina. Officially born in 2014 under this name, the project is the natural evolution of Abril's early sonic experiments under the alias INU KUSAI, a phase that saw her release two independent albums and explore a more playful and "crazy" approach, even experimenting with everyday sounds like WhatsApp messages, forging an original and intimate sound. Since its inception, TOXIK Dementia has released its music through its own record label, Blood & Dementia Records, named in honor of the track that marked the beginning of its recognition: "Hate, Blood & Dementia." The current sonic identity of TOXIK Dementia centers on Experimental Electro Industrial, fusing the rawness of industrial sound with an avant-garde approach. It incorporates potent elements of Aggrotech and the dark atmospheres of Dark Electro, while also allowing for experimentation with influences from other genres, including touches of hard techno in its rhythmic palette, but without being confined to a single sound. The sound is characterized by its forceful rhythms, aggressive synthesizers, distorted sounds, and glitches, elements that directly dialogue with the project's visual aesthetic. Although the music delves into dark themes and often presents an experimental character that breaks genre barriers, Abril Rainbow prioritizes a fundamental element: enjoyment and fun in both the creative process and the listener's experience, demonstrating that darkness can be danceable and stimulating. While her music is mostly instrumental, melodies are a key essence, born from her good musical ear developed by playing guitar since she was 15 and created and performed on the keyboard for her productions. When there are vocals, they are integrated as another sonic element, using samples, distorted or robotic voices, never Abril's sung voice. Two tracks mark significant milestones in the history of TOXIK Dementia. "Hate, Blood & Dementia" (2014) was the initial catalyst; born from spontaneous inspiration, this track propelled the project nationally and internationally, gaining rotation on radio stations and in clubs and opening doors to invitations to perform as an artist in renowned clubs in Argentina such as Red Bell, Primer Piso Bar, and Requiem Club, also laying the groundwork for her subsequent career as a DJ. This success was so defining that it gave its name to her label, Blood & Dementia Records. Years later, "Ghost Hound" (2019) represented a second stage, with a darker, more serious, professional, and experimental sound, reflecting a new approach to production with more calm and personal dedication, very representative of her focus on Experimental Electro Industrial. This stage, although marked by artistic maturity, also involved navigating the pressure of the local scene and the search for authenticity, leading Abril to focus on her global audience and reaffirm her artistic vision free from destructive competition. TOXIK Dementia's extensive catalog is a testament to this evolution and perseverance in Experimental Electro Industrial. Published entirely under the Blood & Dementia Records label, it includes a double album, four studio albums, multiple EPs and singles, and various collaborations and remixes. Interaction with other artists is a valued component, highlighting collaborations linked to tracks like "I Am The Devil" (2016), which enriched the sound through mutual remixes. Although a period of introspection linked to her gender transition process led to temporary isolation and losing contact with some collaborators, the connection with music and the project has always been full of feeling and soul. As a graphic designer and illustrator, Abril Rainbow is the architect of TOXIK Dementia's entire visual identity. This materializes in a distinctive aesthetic that fuses darkness with neon colors, cyberpunk elements, and a post-apocalyptic atmosphere, using visual effects like glitches and "bad signal." This visual vision, rooted in her own taste for distorted imagery since she was young, connects intrinsically with the sounds of her music. Her personal image is not the central focus of promotion and, when used (e.g., flyers), it is always artistically treated with editing to integrate into this visual narrative, prioritizing the project's aesthetic over a conventional portrait of the artist. Live, Abril Rainbow presents TOXIK Dementia using the keyboard as the main instrument. Since 2014, TOXIK Dementia not only offers powerful and experimental music through Blood & Dementia Records but also shares Abril Rainbow's personal journey of self-discovery and growth. It is a project that represents perseverance, authenticity, and empowerment, breaking molds and building a unique sonic and visual universe in Experimental Electro Industrial that continues to captivate those seeking something genuine and outside the established norms in the electronic scene.
