About
Vinny Vega was Born in New York City and raised in Bushwick, Brooklyn to Puerto Rican parents who felt music communicates with the heart not the ear. My parents always taught me 'If it moves you, it'll soothe you". I carried that with me throughout my music journey and I've never made music that didn't move me on some level.
Growing up in Bushwick, Brooklyn I was surrounded with influence and inspired by friendships and acquaintances. DJ Evil Dee worked at the record shop just down the block from where i lived. Dstroy of the Arsonists was a school friend and our mothers were very good friends as well. DJ Tony Touch mixtapes were a part of my childhood and I was fortunate enough later on in life while engineering for U-Krime to have worked in the studio with him. My first hip hop concert was a Black Moon concert at the Wyckoff Square in Ridgewood, Queens. Hip hop and music in general was real to me. it wasn't just some sounds coming out the radio. I knew some of the people making that music and creating those sounds and I wanted to be a part of it. In Junior High School I began learning how to read music and began playing the trumpet (because of Quincy Jones) and the alto sax. I was preparing to be a part of that music making world. To my surprise due to personal hardships and unforeseen circumstances it wasn't as easy as I thought to make music and put it out. For that reason my career has been more of a marathon than a race.
Throughout my career in music I've always had one foot in the underground music scene and the other in the commercial music scene. I enjoy helping up and coming artist find their sound and developing it. I also enjoy to hear all the new music that's out and creating production that will contribute to it. I've been blessed to work with some artist in the infancy of their career who have gone on to become mega stars like Nicki Minaj who i worked with when she was a part of the Hoodstars and others that have had moderate success like The Misfits, Heattwave, U-Krime and Rick Gonzalez the actor. Throughout it all I've been and continue to be mentored by my great friend Johnny Nice who has engineered, written and/or produced for many artists such as Rihanna, Nas and many others.
I continue to produce music for artist like Fred the Godson and continue to build relations with artists and other producers like Rsonist of The Heatmakers in hopes of always working and always learning because I love it.
The feeling of playing something you produced and it connecting with someone else mentally or even spiritually where they feel the need to express themselves over your music, never gets old.
