About

VOODOO ISLAND Welcome to the land of magic where a wand is used as a microphone and sorcery is conducted in the form of rapping and singing. Instrumentals are drums that summon powers and lyrics are words that are used to cast a spell. Songs are mysterious tricks used to captivate the audience and stage performances are as ritualistic as dance ceremonies. It’s a herbaceous environment surrounded by medicinal water. Voodoo Island is a spiritual entity in the religion of hip-hop. In the so-called dark world, nothing is as powerful as a pair of superheroes and a relatively influential ghost. The exceptional collective consists of two abundantly gifted shamans, Care and Silver Gee, and the invisible force – The Oracle. The effective tripartite is an upshot of valuable individual experiences. All the involved members have previously worked on a plethora of separate projects before performing wonders together. Born on the 3rd of July 1999, Mbongeni Nyembe, also known as Care, started rapping at the of 11 and gradually evolved into a remarkable producer four years later. He was a juvenile legend before he could impressively transform into a seasoned maestro. As an artist, Care’s lyricism has incessantly left his opponents in a fragile state. Subsequently, his artistic attainment of superb production skills was branded with a vital alter ego – Crucial. His fruitful artistry was cultivated on the fertile Vaal soil, particularly Bedworthpark. Silver Gee whose real name is Leonard Molete Molemohi was born on the 28th of September 1990 in Sebokeng before he also found a home in Bedworthpark. Despite his silver disposition, the genuine quality of the substance in his music is of gold material. He’s a veteran lyricist who prides himself in word wizardry of the highest order. His tremendous grasp of sorcery is the basis of the entity’s magical powers. He’s using his age to learn modern techniques, and his experience to impart indispensable knowledge. The mysterious character lurking in the shadows of the island is the third member of the entity, The Oracle. The complex system of Vodun comprises two worlds; the invisible and visible world. Both worlds are intertwined - as evident in the case of Voodoo Island with The Oracle manipulating the occurrences from an untouchable position. If the practice of witchcraft was designed on a Christian belief template; Voodoo Island would be the Godhead with Silver Gee as the Father, Care as the Son, and The Oracle as the Holy Spirit. The cult is not a mere trio, it’s a trinity. They perform their rituals over Hip-hop, Neo Soul and RnB drums. Their cultural sound is a spiritual merger of the old and new generation. They’re ancient souls with fresh minds. They ingeniously established a commendable shift from customary and prevalent structures of regular compositions. Instead of striving to fit in, they chose to fly out of the existing categories. As it's characteristic of witchcraft specialists, their unorthodox techniques boast strong healing components. There’s a soothing spirit behind every song. Voodoo Island is on the verge of releasing their debut EP, The Believers. The quality of the project is bound to land them a cult following. It’s a sheer display of their marvelous talents and the ultimate recruitment of scores of art enthusiasts. Their creative witchcraft is capable of turning staunch atheists into firm believers due to the depth of their gospel. Every minute of their music is a spellbinding moment. They recently provided the believers with a supernatural performance at one of the most relevant hip-hop events in the country – The Master Class Hip Hop session at Afro-Bru Craft in Maboneng, Johannesburg. Sometimes sorcery needs to have a visual record, so the trio also released the music video for their hit single, Crazy Mad: https://youtu.be/esoJSmVpxfU Smoking Dragon was their first biggest festival and they are booked to bless the masses again in 2022.
