YOHANCE

I was raised performing. From 10 to 14yrs old I played trumpet in an orchestra under the tutelage of the late great Cyril Ramdeo in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago. I later taught trumpet and baritone horn while a student at Franklin K Lane H.S. in Brooklyn N.Y. I went on to play trumpet in the U.S. Navy Band in Great Lakes. Il. Prior to the Navy, the party DJ bug bit me and Brooklyn N.Y. was jumping. As least it was when I got on the set. Haha. I was 16 and my neighbors had wives and children. We formed the group "Cozine Connection" and basements, backyards and the occasional big Halls in Brooklyn, NY became my stomping ground. After the military I joined Sound City, and my already peaked interest in the production element had now exploded. I continued on to a 14yr award winning radio production career at WWRL in NYC where I won 3 NYSBA's with the station. A fond memory I have as a child is of our family friend, Mr. Garfield Blackman, visiting our home and I knowing who he was. He always had his guitar and would strum and sing a little. I recognized a fire in me that, until this day, still burns. I am Yohance and I sing Soca.
