About
King Ward, known professionally as Yung Ap, is a 21-year-old artist from Chicago, Illinois, born on July 20, making him a Cancer—a sign known for deep emotion, loyalty, and resilience. Those traits are woven into both his life and his music.
Growing up in Chicago, Yung Ap faced a hard reality early on. Life wasn’t easy—there were times when food was scarce and clothes were limited. Raised by his mother, everything changed when she passed away while he was just 11 years old. From that moment on, survival became real. He had to grow up fast, step outside his comfort zone, and figure out how to make things happen on his own.
Despite the pain, Yung Ap always carried a dream bigger than his circumstances: to move his family out of the hood and create a better life. That dream became fuel, especially as loss continued to surround him. The death of his brother left a permanent mark, bringing battles with PTSD and anxiety, but instead of breaking him, it pushed him forward. The memory of the people he loved—and lost—became motivation.
His brother Shaun remains a constant source of strength, motivating him every day to keep going and never quit. Through the pain, Yung Ap found purpose. Music became his outlet, his therapy, and his way out. Every session in the studio and every music video shot is done with intention.
Yung Ap has always had one clear vision: to be on BET. That goal has lived with him his whole life, and he works toward it relentlessly. He knows where he came from, he knows what he’s survived, and he knows where he’s headed.
From the streets of Chicago to the spotlight he’s chasing, Yung Ap is on his way to the top—not just for himself, but for his family, his fallen loved ones, and everyone who comes from nothing but still dares to dream
