My Name is Derrick Dion Woods Jr. I was (born January 9, 1998) born in Maryland but was raised in southeast Washington DC started My early Education in DC Schools Then Transferred To Eleanor Rosevelt High School Located in Greenbelt Maryland Where I graduated. I'm known professionally as Yung Derko. I'm a African American rapper, songwriter. I Started rapping in 2009. I took it seriously in the year 2013. My dad saw that I was very serious about music so he let me join his management group called WiseMindz Entertainment. WiseMindz Entertainment is a music management group owned by my Dad Derrick Dion woods Sr he is known professionally as Bo I became a Wisemindz Entertainment Member in 2013. In my early life way before I wanted to be a professional rap artist I wanted to play basketball and play for the Washington wizards But as you can see that did not work out. I took a turn in my life because I came from the struggle so I really stopped thinking about basketball. My mind couldn't focus on it. Me And My Mom was moving into different homes, bills were too high so I did not have time for basketball. I thought about joining the streets a lot in my early life because I just got sick of me and my mom moving into somebody else’s place. She had to find different jobs. It was hard at times for us so I would rather make some money fast. I was raised in the hood there was some positive people around but not a lot there was a few around that would tell me don’t ever join the streets don’t ever gang bang that would Ruin your life and that’s what made me have a positive mindset because growing up in southeast DC ain’t no joke it’s hard out there. So with all that being said I choose to express my feelings through music I would pick up a pencil and start writing down my lyrics but I never got into the studio yet because I was not sure if I wanted to be a rap artist at the time And also i couldn't afford it, I would just write anytime when I meet up with my friends we would just rap on the phone and put it on SoundCloud we Was just playing around but the year 2013 I decided to start typing my lyrics in My phone and I showed my friends and they said that’s it you got it and at that moment I took it seriously. Also what made me grind harder is When my girlfriend Kija gave Birth to our baby girl Myomi woods on June 22, 2019 this means there was no giving up. The music artists that really Inspire me to rap Was Tupac he inspires me to rap because he raps about the struggle and I can relate to that. Joyner Lucas inspires me to rap because of his flow and bars and also he raps about real life I like rapping about real life. Eminem inspires me to rap because of his lyrical flow and he likes Competing against other artists. Biggie Smalls inspires me to rap because he talks about how he was in the hood and dreamed about getting rich and also raps about the party life. I can relate about that because I always dreamed about making it out the hood. J Cole inspires me to rap because he raps about how the rap game is changing and his goal is to bring back real hip hop back and that’s one of my goals too.
