KELSEY OGBEWE is a poet, essayist, and recording artist. He describes himself as a storyteller who finds his voice in rap, nurtures it with jazz, and offers it as poetry. Born and raised in Montgomery County to Nigerian and Haitian parents, Kelsey began writing and performing in 2012.
Since then, he has released the poetry EP Pieces of a Man. He read for the Hurston/Wright Foundation’s 2024 Black August event. His poems appear in The Amistad and Stylus. He has been a featured poet at Spit Dat and Busboys and Poets, spoken at local school assemblies, and performed as a guest artist with Speak Life Tour, a Baltimore-based nonprofit.
Kelsey's work explores Black personhood, liberation, relationships, education, and spirituality. He aims to promote self-discovery and creative freedom among working people in the Black diaspora.
