Courtney Bradley, known as Montu Mercury, was born on May 27, 1988, in Toledo, Ohio, and raised in Jennings, Missouri. Growing up in Jennings taught him competitiveness and how to structure songs by recording music in neighborhood basements with tape recorders before progressing to home studios using FL Studio and Audacity. His musical foundation began in middle school as a percussionist in the marching band, where he learned to read music and play cymbals, xylophone, snare, and bass drums—skills that laid the groundwork for his passion for creating melodies and rhythms. Montu began releasing music on SoundCloud in 2014 and became more serious about building his following in 2016. In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, Montu released his debut album, The Realm of Merc, featuring standout singles like “iLLKiLL,” “Vampire,” and “666,” which together helped the album surpass 500,000 streams. In 2021, Montu released “Shadow,” inspired by his personal journey of self-transformation through shadow work, and followed it up with “Embrace the Struggle,” a motivational trap anthem about perseverance. In 2022, he released “YinYang,” a track exploring the duality of life, and re-released his fan-favorite “Darkness,” re-mastered and inspired by his Marilyn Manson-inspired experimentation. In late 2022, Montu officially launched his independent label, Other Worldly Music LLC, as its first artist. The label’s vision is to inspire others to think beyond the norm and deliver timeless music with rare and spiritual depth. In 2023, Montu Mercury hit a major milestone with his single “Ace of Cups,” featuring Asha Renu, which was promoted on a Times Square billboard and became his most-streamed song on Spotify, surpassing 100,000 streams. Montu Mercury’s name reflects his identity: Montu represents the strength of a war god, while Mercury symbolizes communication and wisdom. Through his music, Montu shares personal battles, inspires self-reliance, and encourages others to walk their own path. As an artist, he refuses to follow trends, crafting his own authentic sound and bringing a unique mystique to the hip-hop space.
