WHAT IS UNITEDMASTERS?
As a traditional label alternative for independent artists, UnitedMasters provides premium music distribution services and facilitates unique partnerships between artists and the world’s biggest brands. UnitedMasters also provides data analytics, marketing and promotion tools, and creative services to help artists grow their fan base at any stage of their career. Unlike traditional record labels, UnitedMasters enables artists to retain full ownership of their careers and the master recording rights to their music. UnitedMasters has attracted major investors and a diverse roster of independent artists.
WHAT IS DIGITAL MUSIC DISTRIBUTION?
Digital music distribution is the process of making your music available to listeners through streaming services, online music stores, and social media platforms.
The digital music distribution process involves uploading music files to a digital distributor or aggregator, which then distributes the music to various online platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and more. This allows listeners to find the music through their preferred streaming or downloading platform.
Digital music distribution has made it easier for independent artists to distribute their music without a traditional record label, and has also made it easier for fans to discover new music from around the world. WHAT KIND OF MUSIC CAN I SELL THROUGH A DIGITAL MUSIC DISTRIBUTOR?
It's important to note that digital music distributors may have their own set of guidelines and requirements for the music they accept. Some distributors may have restrictions on explicit or copyrighted material, while others may require certain technical specifications for the audio files, such as bit rate and sample rate. Before choosing a digital music distributor, it's important to read their guidelines and requirements to ensure that your music is eligible for distribution.
HOW DO I DISTRIBUTE MY MUSIC DIGITALLY?
Distributing your music as an independent artist is easier than ever. To distribute your music digitally, follow these steps:
1) Create your music: Write and record your music in a high-quality format, such as WAV or FLAC, with mixing.
2) Create a UnitedMasters account: Sign up for UnitedMasters and create an Artist profile. Choose between distributing to an existing Spotify and Apple Music page, or releasing on new profiles. Join UnitedMasters SELECT to distribute your music to more platforms.
3) Upload your music: Upload your music files and metadata such as track titles, album artwork, and collaborators. Digitally master your songs with Mastering through our platform.
4) Confirm the details: Enter the release details and add collaborators to share royalties
5) Review and submit: Submit it for approval by UnitedMasters. SELECT artists can choose their release dates to better plan their promotional strategies.
6) Release your music: Your music will be distributed to the platforms available to your plan. With UnitedMasters SELECT, you can release in as little as 2 business days.
HOW DO I GET PAID FROM MY MUSIC SALES?
When you distribute your music through UnitedMasters, you will be paid royalties for each time your music is streamed or downloaded. These royalties are typically based on a percentage of revenue generated from the sales or streams of your music. The exact percentage can vary depending on the platform where your music is streamed or sold.
DOES UNITEDMASTERS TAKE A PERCENTAGE OF MY MUSIC SALES?
UnitedMasters has three plans for independent artists in varying stages of their music careers:
DEBUT is free to join and enables artists to release once per month. DEBUT artists keep 90% of their streaming royalties, while UnitedMasters takes a 10% commission.
SELECT is ₦25,000/year and allows artists to distribute an unlimited number of releases. SELECT artists keep 100% of their streaming royalties, meaning UnitedMasters does not take a commission.
PARTNER is an invite-only plan with bespoke royalty splits per artist.
